Matt Sheard is our family worker at AP.
Matt has been around Anlaby Park as a church member for nearly ten years. He came to Hull originally to take up employment within Hull Centre and West Methodist Circuit as Children’s development worker. Matt’s role took him across the length of the circuit and latterly into the local primary schools based around the Anlaby area. He had 9 happy years working in this way. In 2015 opportunity arose for Matt to take up his current position with us as Family Worker after finishing his 9 year stint with the circuit. Matt has a passion for making whole hearted followers of Jesus, for journeying with people on their journey of faith and life, and for sharing the Good News of Jesus in a relevant way.
So what is the role of the Family Worker all about?
The role of Family Worker was created to reach out to families on the edges of our church and in the community, meeting and sharing with them the love of Jesus. Giving them opportunity to do things as a family, walking with them in the ups and downs of life and seeking to make whole hearted followers of Jesus.
Matt also works with our own church family and regularly leads worship and activity based all age worship sessions.
Matt has made lot of contacts outside of our Sunday morning worship. Matt, along with a team of volunteers runs our Wednesday Toddler Group, Toddlers extra once a month Friday session and Messy Church. Matt also provides opportunity, along with helpers from church, for families to come together during the school holidays. This has included the now famous create and make sessions (book early to avoid disappointment!), family film afternoons and holiday club events. Matt has also been part of various teams who have put on events for families as outreach into the community from the church, this has included the pancake party and our monthly face to face sessions.
If you would like any more information about the family work that happens at Anlaby Park or any of the groups mentioned above then, please contact Matt.
